The ductwork east of Federal is older than most people assume

A great deal of the housing between Federal Highway and the beach went up in the 1950s and 1960s, and a surprising number of those houses are still moving air through the duct runs they were built with. Sheet metal of that age is not necessarily failing, but the joints have usually been disturbed by two or three equipment changes, and the insulation wrapped around it has often been replaced in patches by whoever was last in the attic. That is the single most common thing our camera finds here: not dirt, but a run that has been opened and closed enough times that it is now leaking conditioned air into the attic.
